Truth™: abortion criminalizers say they own it.

In the previous entry, Birth Pangs exposed the lies fetus-fetishizers produce. Yet the word Truth™ appears over and over in their rants and screeds.

So we thought that we should address one truth that they will neither admit nor say outright.

If abortion is criminalized, their stated goal, for they do not lie about what they are attempting to accomplish, women will die. No, not in the gas chamber nor through lethal injection, though some US fundamentalists are candid enough to reveal their belief that a woman who attempts to end her pregnancy deserves capital punishment.

A great number of women will die, as they did before this medical intervention became safe, accessible and legal for health care practitioners to provide. Who will die and why?

Women who have good social connections and enough financial resources to ensure that they can safely obtain this procedure from doctors who are willing to jeopardize their careers, will survive.

Women who have few social connections and fewer financial resources will attempt to terminate the pregnancy themselves, by using a variety of means that folklore claims work: drinking lye, repeated hits to the abdomen with a blunt object, knitting needles and yes, the legendary curved end of a coat hanger. Or they will furtively ask around, only to be directed to an illicit abortionist. Most will die, from the consequences of their attempt to end the pregnancy: digestive systems destroyed by drinking corrosive fluids, septic infections from perforated internal organs, or hemorrhaging out their life’s blood.

Why? Because fetus fetishizers believe that the rights of a fertilized ova, an embryo or a fetus trumps the rights of the woman who is pregnant.

The irony, and ultimately hypocrisy, of their crusade to criminalize abortion – which seems to escape their notice, blinded as they are by the dictates and dogma of religious beliefs – is that a fetus cannot thrive on its own nor be born if its “vessel” dies.

So, what really is the truth™ about what abortion criminalizers are trying to accomplish?
