That day may be getting closer and closer in the US. According to a recent news item, municipal workers in Morgantown, West Virginia, contacted the local police to report a fetus found in the sewage system. A Utility Board worker said that he was ’shocked’. The police weren’t certain whether a crime had been committed – but they investigated. This is how a local television newscast ran with the story.
A Morgantown Utility Board worker makes a gruesome discovery this morning. The worker was performing some routine maintenance when they found a fetus. The worker was at MUB sewage pump station on Eastern Avenue when he made the discovery, and now police are looking for answers. The detective division is investigating, and say the fetus will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Charleston. If you have any information you can call Morgantown police at …
In another account of the incident, somewhat less sensationalized, officials said that anything larger than three-quarters of an inch gets trapped by the screens.
This would be the moment to present some factual information about miscarriages – for which the actual medical term is spontaneous abortions. Source.
A miscarriage (spontaneous abortion) is any pregnancy that is non-viable (wherein the fetus cannot survive or is born before the 20th week of pregnancy). Miscarriages can be divided according to when in pregnancy they occur. Miscarriage occurs in about 15-20% of all recognized pregnancies, and usually occurs before the 13th week of pregnancy. Of those miscarriages before the eighth week, 30% have no fetus associated with the sac or placenta. This condition is called blighted ovum and many women are surprised to learn that there was never an embryo inside the sac. Some miscarriages occur before women recognize that they are pregnant. About 15% of fertilized eggs are lost before the egg even has a chance to implant (embed itself) in the wall of the uterus. A woman would not generally identify this type of miscarriage. Another 15% of conceptions are lost before 8 weeks gestation.
It would seem that many pregnancies are naturally terminated, for a variety of physiological reasons. Up to 12 weeks of gestation, a fertilized egg is called an embryo. Afterwards, the term is fetus and normally it would be about 7.5cms or 3 inches long.
If abortion criminalizers in the US continue to practice political bullying, would there come a day when sewage workers will be screening detritus to find embryos? Or will all pre-pregnant / menstruating women be legally forced to use specific facilities to track their biological detritus?
By the way, forensic pathologists determined that the fetus ‘gruesomely’ discovered by the Morgantown municipal worker was not viable and the product of a miscarriage, from a pregnancy that a woman’s body spontaneously terminated.

This is getting dangerously close to that ‘Forensic Vagina Inspector‘ business in El Salvador
How many used condoms did they find in that screen?
Dave:
Notice I didn’t sign my name in capitals this time… gobstopped, my dears, gobstopped.
This will tie in so well with the monthly mourning. And it will increase employment. Each sewage disposal system (of which there are, as yet, not enough across the entire continent),will have teams of inspectors. I propose they be provided with red rubberized jumpsuit coveralls to distinguish them from the other, more ordinary, screen inspectors. Their job, in fact their purpose in life, will be to carefully examine anything bigger than three-quarters of an inch to determine if it …or we could possibly make the screens smaller, more efficient, and entrap even detritis at a cellular level but one hesitates because, after all, think what happens when someone eats corn kernels…and why waste our time on corn?
Every month, as we all gather to mourn stillbirths and the weeping of the disappointed womb, an honour guard of those red-clad inspectors could march forward carrying a large silver salver on which rests the various and sundry Wotzits. While the Salvation Army band plays the Dead March (dum dum de dum dum de dum dum dum de dum) the salver , with due pomp and ceremony, will be laid at the foot of the monument beside the tossed offerings of sanitary napkins and tampons..(I must confess I’m not sure about the sponges…is anyone still using them?)
In every city, town, municipality, village, hamlet and regional district from sea to sea to shining sea, and indeed on banks of rivers, streams, brooks, creeks, criks, by hill and dale, meadow, field (you get the idea) we will gather to mourn, to remember, and to dedicate ourselves anew to whatever the hell it is we’re up to with all of this bumph. Grandmothers, mothers, and the pre-pregnant will join hands and sing our anthem (we haven’t yet decided what it will be, but doleful is a good bet).
Special honour will be paid to evidence of what has been scientifically ascertained to have been double-yoked eggs and thus possibly twins. And special days of remembrance will be held should these scientific tests prove there was substantial reason to believe the double yoked ovum would have resulted in conjoined twins, whether Siamese or any other ethnicity.
Such a great day! After which we can all go out and shoot somebody or maybe blow up a clinic or even handle snakes and poisonous spiders.
Hey, why not coordinate that with a C.H.U.D. patrol, too!
Win-win.
Also, what are we to do about the billions and billions of dried up pre-baby corpses contained in seemingly innocuous wadded-up tissues? I propose we regularly and randomly inspect the garbage baskets of Onanistic teenage boys, beginning at puberty, in order that we may hold these hand-job Janjaweeds fully accountable for their unspeakable crimes against (potential) humanity. The vile horror of mass global spermicide should–nay, must–be acknowledged and condemned without prejudice on the floor of the UN.
I will clarify my last comment.
In that this clearly spells out that a body of civic workers and then police feel they have to track down the mother of a miscarried fetus, clearly with the intent of determining criminal wrongdoing, we are only a step away from determining that preventing sperm from freely engaging the ovum is interfering with the intentions of somebody’s sky-god. How far away do you think we are from seeing people charged with reckless endangerment because they captured the male portion of biological reproductive cells and flushed them into the sewer system?
I would never intentionally be offensive. Life provides enough opportunities to do it with no effort on my part.
Maybe they should create a workfare program for the homeless to scour the alleys, sewers and dumpsters for discarded tissues, condoms, tampons and menstrual pads. Given how underfunded our governments are, they might need to privatize the forensic/DNA analysis units.
I’m sure Bechtel has expanded into this specialty given all the fine work they’re doing in Iraq (lots of DNA analysis going on there I imagine). We need real professionals on the job ASAP. Too many criminals getting away with MURDER!
Especially the ones in power, committing murder in plain sight. Oh wait though … it’s not embryos or fetuses that those criminals aka Cheney and his buddies, are terminating with extreme prejudice, it’s those that hate the US for their fast-disappearing ‘freedoms’.
Correction: the embryonic period ends at the end of the 8th week gestation (10th week from last menstrual period [LMP]), after which the fetal period begins (at the 9th week gestation or 11th week LMP).
