Canada and Nicaragua

From the ‘Probably a Total Waste of Time’ file, but dead serious here.

The Tired Old Government of Canada announced this yesterday.

The Honourable Helena Guergis, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, will travel to San José, Costa Rica, and Managua, Nicaragua, from November 6 to 9, 2007, as part of Canada’s renewed engagement in the Americas.

Secretary of State Guergis will meet with senior government officials, representatives of Canadian businesses, and a range of development, disaster response and investment experts.

You remember Nicaragua where more than 80 pregnant women have died since a total ban on abortion was instituted last year.

She’ll meet with development experts, eh?

We at Birth Pangs would very much like her to bring up the ‘development’ issue of state murder of pregnant women.

Write to her at: GuergisH@parl.gc.ca

Thank you.

UPDATE: Loyal reader pseudz reports that email sent to that address bounces back. (Mine bounced too, but I just assumed that was this clunker computer.)

You can leave a message for Ms Guergis at www.pch.gc.ca/pc-ch/min/guergis/contact/index_e.cfm.

Why I can’t make a link, I don’t know. Sorry.

Christ. Not Helena the Horrible again.

Having abandoned dreams of a Miss Canada tiara, I guess she’ll have to settle for this.

Perhaps we could give her a sash and some roses.

  2. Any idea what “businesses” will be represented in her official delegation? Mining? Fruit? I can’t keep all of our economic hitmen straight anymore :(

I’m just wondering if it’d be worth contacting the businesses too or raising-sh!t against the specific industries concerned. I have a feeling that Guergis is a giant waste of time.

(my eyes are tired tonight but I think your post-title wants another “a” in Nicaragua, no?)
