We operate a big tent here at Birth Pangs. So big, in fact, that it could be called a cultural muu-muu*.

Loyal readers will recall that we have officially endorsed USian presidential candidate, Ron Paul.

Well, look at the company we’re in:

Brothel owner throws support to Republican Paul

Perhaps nothing better exemplifies the libertarian streak that runs through Nevada than the state’s permissive policy on prostitution — the ultimate expression of the live-and-let-live philosophy.

So, it should be no surprise that the presidential candidate with the purest libertarian bona fides picked up some X-rated support while campaigning in Reno last week.

To be more explicit, Nevada brothel owner Dennis Hof declared his support for Republican contender Ron Paul during Paul’s campaign swing through the state.

Hof, a prominent brothel-owner, intends to raise money for Paul.

“I’ll do it today,” he said. “I’ll get all the Bunnies together, and we can raise him some money. I’ll put up a collection box outside the door. They can drop in $1 dollar, $5 dollar contributions.”

    :twisted: hmm, if you’re judged by the company you keep. . . are you aware that Ron Paul, tho claiming to have been an OB/GYN for 30 years said that he had never seen a case where a late term abortion needed to be performed and also is for abstinance only education and is anti choice? When I read this post I was seriously taken aback. Until a little while ago I had thought this was a pretty good pro-feminist site by canadians *yay* but now I’m having second thoughts. Did I miss the /snark?

    Well, LadyH, we did wrestle with our consciences over this important endorsement. If you’ll check out the post in which we endorsed Ron Paul (up there, highlighted ‘Ron Paul’), you’ll see that as Canadians (*yay*), we figured that in balance USians staying at home and wreaking fascism there rather than all over the rest of the fucking world was a (slightly) better deal in terms of Birth Pangs’ mandate to save lives.

    So, yeah, you missed the snark. Snark is everywhere here at Birth Pangs.
