There’s a bit of a flap going on in the Canadian blogosphere, which, unless you’re part of the Canadian blogosphere, you haven’t heard of or, probably, care about.
It’s about the categories in a blog popularity contest. It was suggested that a new category, Best Feminist Blog, be created. Well, SOMEONE objected and shit in your hat and the fight’s on.
As we understand it, things haven’t been finally decided yet. But a ‘compromise’ was offered. Lump the feminist bloggers in with the LGBT bloggers and call the category Gender Issues, or something like that.
That made us laugh. Because it’s only feminist women and LGBT folk who have Gender Issues, right?
And that made us think of the phrase ‘women and minorities’. And that made us wonder, who’s left when you take out the women and minorities?
The white men and the white children?

What to call the category without having to use the f-word?
Gosh, that’s a toughie.
Some of the moderators’ alternative category suggestions to get around using the f-word so far :
*gender and sexuality issues
*women’s issues
*family
*sexual gender GBLT issues
*culture
*gender equality
Why don’t they just call it
*best f-word blog?
The Best Other F-Word Blog?
My vote: “Best M’kay Blog.”
Obviously, it’s your time of the month.
Isn’t that what it always boils down to with them? Women asking for shit == they must be OTR.
Assholes.
*sigh* I tried injecting a voice of calm objectivity over there at the discussion board, and I got a little encouragement, so we’ll see what happens. There is a surge of support for the category of feminist bloggers. There’s also a bit of chewing over the “Best Blog” category — that’s it’s too heavily loaded and has too wide a scope.
I’ve already nominated a couple of blogs (and seconded others), and I won’t withdraw the nominations unless asked, but I’m not going to participate any further until the feminist category is accepted.
If nothing changes at the CBA, there is an option. Dump the CBA as it sits and start all over again. After all, ya got yer Oscars and ya got yer Golden Globe, too!
