Some time ago, we at Birth Pangs called for
Mandatory Obstetric Photography:
To help pre-pregnant women understand fully the long-term, serious consequences of pregnancy, we propose a law that requires pre-pregnant women to have Mandatory Obstetric Photography (MOP). The women would strip naked for a series of full-body, harshly lit photographs. Special attention would be paid to perky breasts, tidy hips, and taut skin. Then the women must look at the photos. Before becoming pregnant, all women would be required to sign an affidavit that they had seen the photos and understand that they will never look like that again.
In our zeal at the time, we neglected to add a provision that would allow women to opt out of the actual viewing part. So we’d like to add that a woman could sign an affidavit affirming that she had declined to view the photos.
But we also forgot another vital element. Who pays for the photography?
Given that it is completely unnecessary from a medical or any other standpoint, it is unreasonable to expect health insurance companies or the state to pay for it.
But it is completely reasonable to force the woman herself to pay for it.
For this genius idea, we must credit the state of Florida.
The abortion issue has electrified the state House and Senate this month with bills that would require ultrasounds before first-trimester abortions.
But there’s more to the debate than privacy and morality. At issue is another topic near and dear to all Floridians: cash.
Under a bill heading toward the Senate floor, a woman not only would have to watch live images of the ultrasound, or sign a form declining to, she would have to pay for the procedure even if she doesn’t watch it.
Most clinics include an ultrasound and factor it into the price of an abortion. But opponents say it’s not medically necessary and that making the expense mandatory runs afoul of the U.S. Constitution, hitting the poor particularly hard. An ultrasound typically costs between $50 and $250.
As we said before, forcing an unnecessary procedure on a person is assault.
What the fuck do you call forcing a person to pay the cost of that assault?

Every time you think they can’t sink any lower they prove you wrong.
