Why, Josée, Why?

900 ft Jesus of In the House and Senate has a good idea on Bill C-484, aka The Kicking Abortion’s Ass Bill.

We are reminded that one of only two* Cons who voted against it was Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women, and Official Languages. Hansard reports that on April 28, Ms. Johanne Deschamps (BQ) asked for her reasons.

Ms. Verner did not answer. Instead, Rob Nicolson went off on a tangent.

900 ft Jesus suggests that we ask Ms. Verner her reasons. ‘Twould be interesting to know, yes?

Four Cons voted against the bill: Cannon, O’Connor, Verner, and Boucher. I know because I watched them, applauded them, and then I blogged them.

Also, Josée is a feminine, spelled like that. /pedantry

That said, at the time I wondered whether Verner felt forced to vote against, given her job as minister and the constituency she supposedly serves. I can believe — well, I have to believe, because it took courage — that the other three voted on principle, but about Verner I’m not so sure.
