A long time ago, Conservative MP Ken Epp’s ongoing attempts to control the public’s perception of Bill C-484 would have been called a ‘snow job’. Nowadays, the term used in political circles is ‘spin control’. Today Epp held a special press conference to whine about how he has been victimized by physicians, politicians and women who are opposed to C-484.
Few reporters from the mainstream media attended the press conference because there are major news stories that might be currently gleaned from the proceedings of several important House of Commons standing committees. Also, Ken Epp lied. He really had no new information to disclose regarding his private member’s bill.
What he did have, however, was the obligatory line-up of props: a murdered pregnant woman’s family member – check! – a rep from an obscure organization (the Catholic-supported Centre for Reproductive Loss) – check! – a health care professional student with years months of experience and practice – check!
The Edmonton MP accused opponents, especially those in Quebec, of engaging in a “massive misinformation campaign” about its potential effect on abortion rights …
So Epp’s complaint is that special interest groups in Québec and in the rest of Canada are spreading untruths about his bill. Hey Ken! Would those groups be the ones who dubbed C-484 “the Bill to kick abortion’s ass”?
In Québec, Ken Epp’s dog-and-pony show would be called “passer un sapin à quelqu’un”.

The PredaTories have a lot riding on C-484. It’s the bone they attempted to throw to the fundamentalist religious fanatics who supported them.
Somehow I don’t think that Epp’s pathetic finger wagging and whining about being victimized is going to turn the tide in their favour, no matter how many times SHE and her minions vote at the poll on his website.
