The New York Times reports:
The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.
Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin’s five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
We at Birth Pangs note that that ‘abstinence-only’ sex ed works real well in Alaska too.

Edited to add: We at Birth Pangs just assumed that a Xian fundie whack-job rabid anti-choice person would support ‘abstinence-only sex’ ed. We found a link substantiating that assumption.
In 2006, Eagle Forum Alaska asked all candidates for governor a number of questions. Here’s Sarah Palin on sex ed:
Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?
SP: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.
Yup! Pretty weighty evidence of how well Abstinence Ed works, eh? ROFLMAO!

These people are impressive, at least on the optics front.
Makes you wonder about the calibre of the GOP election brain trust. Did they not vet Palin to make sure she was squeaky clean?
Don’t underestimate them, Beijing. This might go over like a double delight in obtaining the evangelical pro-family, pro-life vote for McNasty.
Which just goes to show how she is being used, at a whole new level.
